Diabatic effects of clouds and precipitation over the Atlantic Ocean

My PhD project will improve our understanding of the diabatic effects of precipitation and clouds over the Atlantic Ocean. The contribution of latent heat to the atmosphere when precipitation forms is one diabatic process that can cause changes in storm dynamics and hence affect the development of extratropical cyclones. My project will determine differences in estimates of diabatic heating profiles from precipitation over the Atlantic Ocean using satellite measurements and climate model predictions
What inspires you
My interest in the natural world was first inspired by watching weather forecasts and storm occurrences across the world.
Before my PhD, I completed a Masters degree in Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Leicester.
Why did you choose doctoral research?
I decided to undertake Doctoral Research as I want to further my knowledge of precipitation and clouds, and acquire the skills to conduct scientific research. Also, I enjoy working with computer coding programmes which I will get to use further in my research.
Why did you choose CENTA?
A CENTA studentship interested me as they provide an excellent range of training courses for environmental science and research skills.
I think that studying with CENTA will improve my knowledge of environmental situations and research processes which will provide me with the skills to become a researcher. My future plans are to conduct research on precipitation observations.
