PhD Summary

My project will combine field CO2 and CH4 fluxes with peat geochemistry and microbial activity to understand the impacts of implementing sustainable agricultural practices on peatland soil in the East Anglian Fens.

Previous activity

I completed my BSc in Geography at the University of Lincoln in 2022. I continued my studies at the University of Lincoln by undertaking an MSc by Research, where I investigated the compositional stability of soil organic carbon in a series of freshwater and saline coastal wetlands.

Why did you choose doctoral research?

I am interested in sediment geochemistry, and wanted to further develop my skills as a researcher whilst contributing to impactful research.

Why did you choose CENTA?

CENTA offers a variety of different training opportunities which stood out to me, and it seemed like a great opportunity to get to know other early career researchers also beginning their PhD.

Future plans

It is my ambition to work in academia and so doing this PhD will support me in obtaining an early career fellowship or a post-doc position.
