Dr. Joshua Larsen

Josh enjoys all aspects of water, including drinking it, swimming, and paddling in it. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Wollongong in Australia, with his PhD also jointly with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). He then completed his postdoc at the University of New South Wales in Australia, within the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT). He was subsequently a Lecturer at the University of Queensland in Australia, and then a Senior research scientist at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, before starting as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.

Research interests

We investigate hydrological processes that determine water resources available for ecosystems and societies, broadly, this includes ecohydrology, biogeochemistry, water quality, and palaeohydrology.

Current Projects and Collaborations

Recent projects include global and continental scale hydrology and flooding, groundwater recharge, alpine hydrology and ecohydrology, ecosystem engineers and biogeochemical feedbacks, and drivers of water quality in freshwater systems, and the hydrology of waterborne diseases.
